Brain Fog on the Rise & How to Reduce it

Writer: Chris CosbyChris Cosby

Brain fog is a widely discussed issue currently, as a growing number of people are experiencing it. Are you unclear about what brain fog entails? The Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry describes it as involving dissociation, fatigue, forgetfulness, and excessive thinking. Many individuals who are facing brain fog nearly every day struggle with forgetfulness, focusing difficulties, and challenges with multitasking.

Why is brain fog becoming more common? What might be contributing to its increase? Brain fog can arise from numerous sources: insufficient sleep, stress, hormonal imbalances, dietary habits, toxins, pollution, and other factors.

Let's concentrate on some of these factors

Insufficient Sleep: It is recommended to sleep 7-9 hours each night. However, do most people actually achieve this? Likely not. Struggling to sleep? When we don't get enough restorative sleep, our bodies are affected, potentially resulting in brain fog. Here are some tips for achieving restful sleep:

  • Avoid eating within 3 hours of going to bed

  • Avoid screen use approximately 2 hours before bedtime (this may be challenging for many, myself included)

  • Consider using a grounding mat or grounding sheet daily (I've observed a positive change in my sleep since I started using it)

  • Enjoy soothing and tranquil music as you prepare for sleep

  • Consider using homeopathic remedies if necessary (feel free to reach out to me, and I'll gladly recommend some for you)

Stress can also contribute to brain fog due to the overload on bodily functions, making it difficult to think clearly. Here are some methods to alleviate daily stress:

  • Get active - at the very least, take a walk

  • Schedule a bodywork session (I enjoy receiving an acupressure session)

  • Practice breathing exercises to soothe the nervous system

  • Enjoy a soothing bath or relax in a hot tub

Hormonal Imbalance: A deficiency in estrogen and progesterone can lead to brain fog, among other symptoms. I recommend a functional medicine hormone test.

Toxins might be a major cause of brain fog. Sadly, our bodies face a daily influx of toxins from sources like air, food, medicines, water, and more. How can we detoxify from all the toxins we encounter?

  • Functional Medicine Testing, particularly the hair, tissue, mineral analysis test, assesses heavy metal toxicity and the body's mineral levels

  • Session in a Far Infrared Sauna

  • Homeopathic remedies

  • Healthy Eating Habits

If you frequently experience brain fog and wish to consult a health practitioner, feel free to
