5 Ways to Reduce Back Pain

If you are reading this blog post, you may be dealing with or know someone who deals with back pain. Back pain is one of the most common complaints that people seek treatment for. Hopefully, you will find some solutions in this blog post that will help you reduce your back pain or pain in general.

What can cause back pain whether acute or chronic?

  • Injury - this can be both acute and chronic

  • Poor eating habits

  • Muscle tightness

  • Digestive issues - bloating & gas

  • Inflammation

Now that we have an idea of what can be a contributing factor, let's take.a look at how to reduce the pain. There are many ways to help reduce pain, it's simply finding the therapy or therapies that work well together to bring pain relief and continue to do them consistently

  • What I have discovered over the many years (over a decade really) is that digestive issues (bloating & gas) can create some pretty intense back pain. I share this from my own personal experience with it. Bloating and gas can put pressure on nerves and muscles, thus causing pain. Imagine the bloating and gas in your small and large intestine acts like a balloon putting pressure on your spine and nerves

  • If you incur an injury, let the acute injury heal first and then seek alternative therapies to help the body heal to the best of its ability. Some examples that can help an injury heal is a far infrared sauna, red light therapy, arnica (homeopathic remedy), essential oils, and of course massage and bodywork. I may ruffle some feathers with this statement, but I have a background in massage therapy. I highly recommend finding bodywork that is neuromuscular and acupressure over massage therapy. These two therapies work with the nervous system and help the body as a whole come back into balance

  • How do we reduce our inflammation? Mainly with eating a wide variety of healthy foods. Digestion will improve too.-- a win win. When you eat poorly, you don't provide the body with good nutrients to absorb causing a lack of minerals for the muscles and tissues to function with.

  • Muscle tightness is a very common one. This can be a result from lack of minerals (such as magnesium), poor dietary habits, pharmaceutical meds, not drinking enough water, stress, etc. High quality supplements may be needed for a short time to help balance the body and help with what the body may be lacking. A great way to see what minerals the body is lacking is with a hair analysis. A hair analysis shows the health status from the muscles and the bones. Your blood pulls nutrients from the muscles and the bones. So it good to have blood work and a hair analysis to have better understanding of what is truly happening in your body.

  • Lastly, I highly recommend homeopathics to help with the reduction of pain of any kind. Homeopathics come in pellets, liquid tinctures, and capsules. They work very well with the body's chemistry. I personally use them often and some everyday.

If you live in the Lake Norman, NC area, feel free to connect with me for more information on the acupressure work I offer. Otherwise, I recommend visiting two websites for a practitioner who might live near you who performs the same techniques that I use-- the Amercian Bowen Academy and the Emmett Technique USA
